Dates are one of the oldest fruits cultivated by humans, which is grown in tropical and subtropical regions, and the history of date cultivation in Iran dates back to 3,000 years ago.
Scattering of date species can be seen in Iran and Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, North Africa and the United States. Dates are known as one of the richest fruits in terms of having high levels of antioxidants and fiber, significant amounts of vitamins and minerals, and therefore it has an important place in food diet not only in Iran but also in most countries of the world.
The production of dates is about 7.5 million tons of dates in the world from 1.1 million hectares of groves with an average yield of 6,834 kg per hectare. The spread of date species is mainly in the northern hemisphere and in Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries along the Persian Gulf, as well as most of the countries of North Africa, the United States and Europe, and is also found scattered in the Southern Hemisphere.
